Emergency Solutions Grants Program (ESG)

About the Program

The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program is a federally funded initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that provides funding to support homelessness prevention, emergency shelter, and rapid re-housing services. Through this program, Sarasota County receives annual funding to assist individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The ESG program helps Sarasota County partner with local non-profit service providers to deliver essential programs that address both the immediate needs of people in crisis and long-term solutions for housing stability.

Eligible activities funded through ESG may include:

  • Emergency shelter operations and essential services

  • Rapid re-housing assistance (rental assistance and housing search support)

  • Homelessness prevention services for households at risk of eviction

  • Street outreach to connect unsheltered individuals with services

  • Data collection and performance reporting through the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)

Sarasota County administers ESG funding in coordination with regional partners, service providers, and the local Continuum of Care to ensure a comprehensive and effective response to homelessness. Funding decisions are guided by community needs, performance data, and public input.

The projects listed below are part of our ongoing effort to prevent homelessness, support rapid re-housing, and enhance essential services for individuals and families in crisis.
