Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG)

About the Program

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a federally funded initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Through this program, Sarasota County receives annual grant funding to support projects that strengthen our communities by promoting decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities—with a focus on serving low- and moderate-income residents.

As a designated CDBG entitlement grantee, Sarasota County allocates funding to eligible local projects that may include:

  • Rehabilitation of affordable housing

  • Improvements to public infrastructure (such as roads, water, and sewer systems)

  • Community facilities and neighborhood revitalization

  • Support for local economic development

  • Limited public services that benefit underserved populations

Sarasota County works with residents, community organizations, and local stakeholders to identify needs and set priorities for CDBG funding through a public participation process.

By administering the CDBG program, Sarasota County helps ensure that federal resources are directed toward meaningful, locally driven improvements that benefit our communities and support long-term growth and equity.

These initiatives reflect our commitment to fostering sustainable development, supporting vulnerable populations, and strengthening our communities through targeted investment.
